Strategic Analysis Frameworks in Business Analysis: Lessons from My BCS Diploma Journey and a Dive into the Five Case Model in the UK Public Sector

- Explore strategic analysis frameworks such as VMOST, PESTLE, Porter’s Five Forces, and SWOT among many others in the light of a case study. This will be a gentle refresher for some of the strategic frameworks in business analysis. 
- Learn why a well-developed business case aid successful delivery and brief discussion on some types of business cases in the light of delivery gateways: Outline Change Proposal (OCP), Strategic Outline Case (SOC), Outline Business Case (OBC), and Full Business Case (FBC).
- Explore the Five Case Model used in Business Case development within the UK government standards, first addressing Business Justification Case, Outline Change Proposals, Strategic Outline Case, and Full Business Case. 
- Walk away with a simple, structured approach to creating strong business cases that stand up to scrutiny.
Break down the Five Case Model:
I. Strategic Case – Demonstrating alignment with organisational strategy and long-term objectives.
II. Economic Case – Identifying options and selecting the one that offers the best public value.
III. Financial Case – Evaluating affordability, funding sources, and long-term financial viability.
IV. Commercial Case – Outlining procurement routes, supplier considerations, and commercial viability.
V. Management Case – Showing how the project will be delivered, governed, monitored, and evaluated.
 
Speaker Biography
Oluwatosin is a Senior Business Analyst with the NHS Business Services Authority, with over five years of experience working across Scotland, England, Canada, and Nigeria. He holds an MSc from the University of Edinburgh Business School, alongside four British Computing Society (BCS) certifications and Diploma in Business Analysis, APMG Better Business Case, and a Green Belt certification in Six Sigma. He has worked across sectors, reflecting a strong
track record of delivering value across public and private sector organisations.
Beyond his core roles, Oluwatosin is deeply invested in supporting the Business Analysis community. He serves as a Career Coach, a Delivery Partner, and Co-founder of thriving Business Analysis communities operating across Scotland and England. Through structured 3-month long coaching and mentoring, he supports Black professionals transitioning into tech, helping them find their path and access meaningful job opportunities. He is also a consistent voice in the profession, creating impactful Business Analysis content on LinkedIn and other platforms. As a regular speaker at
events and workshops, he shares insights to help professionals grow, secure meaningful roles, and transition confidently. His work aligns with his passion for contributing to Sustainable Development Goals 8 and 10, promoting decent work, reduced inequalities, and empowerment through advocacy and mentorship.
